Andrew Dalby, tarih, özellikle de yemek tarihi üzerine, her zaman orijinal kaynaklara başvurarak yazmaktadır. Cambridge'deki St John's College ve University College London'da eğitim görmüştür. Fransa'da yaşamakta, meyve yetiştirmekte ve elma şarabı (cider) yapmaktadır.
Londra'daki Birkbeck College'da yarı zamanlı doktora yaparken gıda tarihiyle tanışan Dalby tezini Siren Feasts (Routledge, 1996) adıyla yayınladı ve aynı yıl Sally Grainger ile birlikte The Classical Cookbook (Türkçe’de Antik Çağ Yemekleri ve Yemek Kültürü) (British Museum Press, 1996) adlı kitabı yayınladı. Daha sonraki kitapları arasında Food in the Ancient World from A to Z (Routledge, 2003), Flavours of Byzantium (Türkçe’de Bizans’ın Damak Tadı) (Prospect Books, 2003), The Shakespeare Cookbook (Maureen Dalby ile birlikte: British Museum Press, 2012) ve Rachel Dalby ile birlikte yazdığı Gifts of the Gods (Reaktion Books, 2018) bulunmaktadır. Prospect Books tarafından yayınlanan üç kaynak metni çevirmiştir: Cato On Farming (1998), Geoponika: Farm Work (2011) ve The Treatise of Walter of Bibbesworth (2012).

Andrew Dalby writes on history, especially the history of food, always working from original sources. He studied at St John’s College, Cambridge, and University College London. He lives in France, grows fruit and makes cider.
A part-time Ph.D. at Birkbeck College, London, was his introduction to food history. His dissertation was revised as Siren Feasts (Routledge, 1996), and in the same year he and Sally Grainger published The Classical Cookbook (British Museum Press, 1996). Later food history books include Food in the Ancient World from A to Z (Routledge, 2003), Flavours of Byzantium (Prospect Books, 2003), The Shakespeare Cookbook (with Maureen Dalby: British Museum Press, 2012) and Gifts of the Gods (with Rachel Dalby: Reaktion Books, 2018). He has translated three source texts, all published by Prospect Books: Cato On Farming (1998), Geoponika: Farm Work (2011), and The Treatise of Walter of Bibbesworth
(2012).
His latest academic papers are ‘Chili Peppers: The First Stage of World Conquest’ in the Alain Touwaide Festschrift (2025) and ‘Alexander’s Last Carouse’ in Classical Quarterly
(2024).
